Why buy a wood ring?

Lots of reasons. . .
Those of us committed to protecting and preserving the environment can make a small statement by wearing wood.  Touch Wood pine and birch rings, juniper, olive, spruce, apple are crafted from local wood, from our own and our families property.  We have a large selection of other woods as well.  David creates each ring individually with handcrafted tools and hours of hand sanding and rubbing.

Touch Wood rings feel wonderful; these rings never become cold on your hand.  The wood is warm and the rings are very light so that you barely know you are wearing it.  The surface is smooth and the look is natural.  Wood may not outlast gold, but wearing a band of wood will connect you with the natural world.   You will be 'touching wood' whenever you wear your ring and that, according to Irish legend, puts you in contact with the 'little people'!

We believe that community and environmental sustainability will only happen when we each take action & make changes, however small.  Let your Touch Wood Ring be a gentle reminder of your commitment to simple living.

"Be the change you wish to see." Gandhi
"Live simply so that others may simply live" Thoreau

You know, that kind of thing . . . if we each take the small steps . . .

How long will a wood ring last?

Our Touch Wood Rings have a life expectancy that really depends on how the rings are treated. They are carefully crafted for longevity and they may last for generations but they must be treated with care - they are wood after all.

David makes and wears his own rings to test them under the toughest conditions.  The rings are subjected to oil, gasoline, water, wood chopping, tending livestock, roofing repairs and hand cleaners.  They come through all of these abuses without delaminating or softening, although the finish suffers somewhat . . . obviously we don't recommend that you do any of these things!

Your Touch Wood ring will last longest if it is treated as a keepsake and memento that can be worn daily.  If you want to pass your ring on to your grandchildren, we suggest that you order in a size that you can easily remove as you should not wash dishes or dip your ring in gasoline or caustic chemicals. The kinder the rings are treated, the longer they will last!

Incidentally, since they are wood, they are much safer to wear. A wood ring would break before it would tear your finger off, should you catch it on a fence or a piece of equipment.  Additionally, they do not conduct electricity which has caused some horrendous accidents for the wearers of metal rings . . . and particularly gold rings.

The cost of your Touch Wood Ring depends on the complexity of the design.
We will quote you a set price just as soon as we have worked out the details of your design.
