Touch Wood Rings &
Wedding Bands
Getting the right size for your ring is the most critical part of your
custom order. We recommend that you get your ring
finger sized by a reputable jeweller! If
you are ordering a wider ring, get a measurement that uses a
wide ring sizer since narrow and wide rings will fit
differently.
If you
are ordering a ring as a surprise, you are taking a risk. You might ask
your partner's mother or sister or one of their friends if they know
his or her ring size. You could also borrow
one of your partners rings from the finger you want to put
a ring on, and take it in to a jewelers to have it sized.
Things
to note when sizing for rings:
More
sizing mistakes are made ordering rings too large than too
small.
We recommend that you measure your
finger during normal temperatures and at the end of the day when
your fingers are most normal.
Please remember that the wider your
ring is, the tighter it will fit.
Please DON'T use this next
sizing method unless you have no other option. The 'paper strip method'
just isn't very reliable. If this really is your only
option here is a ' how to' for finding an approximate ring
size.
Cut a strip of paper no wider than 1/4" and a few inches in
length.
The strip will be easier to handle if you cut it
like the
example in this photo (click on the thumbnail for a better view)
-
Wrap the strip around the
appropriate
finger at the point on the finger where the ring will be
worn.
-
Use a pen to mark the point on the paper where it
overlaps, forming a complete circle.
-
With a ruler, measure
(in mm or inches) the length from the starting end of
the strip to the pen mark.
-
Be as precise as you can be.
We will work
with your measurement (don't worry about converting it to a 'ring
size'.)
When a ring fits properly it should
slide on easily, but will resist just a little when coming off,
even taking 2-3 seconds to get it back over the knuckle. This is
normal, and especially common with men, who typically have larger knuckles.
If you size your ring to your knuckle, it will often be too big on
your finger.
A few more tips:
-
Don't
measure cold fingers, as this is when fingers are their
smallest.
-
For
the most accurate reading, measure the finger at a few
different times of day.
-
The end of the day is when your finger
will be at it's 'normal' size.
-
You can build yourself a
mock ring with paper and tape and when you are sure its right,
cut and measure it . . .
-
Remember . . . we can
only guarantee that we will build the size you order.
You must guarantee that it will fit!
